Full details

A hospital in northeastern Maine is seeking a full-time CRNA to join five full-time CRNAs and two anesthesiologists who staff its five operating rooms. The operating room handles roughly 250 cases each month, including about 15 births monthly. Typical hours run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the practice operates under a medical supervision model that gives CRNAs flexibility and autonomy. Call is described as manageable at one in four or five, with minimal trauma.

Case mix is approximately 50% general surgery, including eye and urology cases, 25% orthopedics, 10% OB/GYN, and 15% other procedures. Head and heart cases are not performed. Candidates should hold BLS and ACLS certification, AANA certification, and a Maine license. Required skills include general, spinal, obstetric, pediatric, and thoracic anesthesia (excluding open heart), Bier blocks, airway management and ventilation in the OR, arterial lines, epidural and peripheral nerve blocks, and central line placement.

CRNAs are hospital employees paid a competitive annual salary, negotiable based on experience, plus a call pay stipend. The employer offers ten weeks of vacation, relocation help, forgivable educational loan assistance, and continuing education support. Benefits include health insurance with employee and family options, a dependent care and FSA account, prescription and over-the-counter medication options, dental coverage, employer-paid basic life insurance at one times salary, supplemental and dependent life coverage, short- and long-term disability, a 457(b) and 401(a) retirement plan, accident and critical illness coverage, whole life insurance, and employee discounts on hospital and community services.

The community is a small city of about 9,000 people, described as the most northeastern city in the United States, with good public schools, a low crime rate, and a family-oriented atmosphere. The surrounding Aroostook County offers lakes, ocean access within reach, hunting, fishing, hiking, paddling, and winter sports, including a cross-country skiing venue that has hosted World Cup and Paralympic events. A regional airport is in nearby Presque Isle.
