Full details
This locum CRNA role at a rural health system provides independent anesthesia coverage for general procedures along with on-call coverage. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, with a work shift listed as varies, and is a non-union position. Coverage is needed for either one provider for two weeks per month or two providers for one week per month, with on-call periods beginning Sunday at 7:00 pm and ending the following Sunday at 7:00 pm.
Typical procedures run from about 7:30 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and include general surgery, cesarean sections and minor orthopedic surgery. The provider must be able to perform obstetric epidurals, with roughly 10 OB patients expected per month. The on-call duties also include emergency department intubation and sedation procedures, and general surgeon backup and OB epidural coverage are part of the role.
Responsibilities include delivering anesthesia or sedation across a range of surgical and non-surgical cases, building and documenting pre-anesthetic plans, and writing orders before, during and after procedures. The CRNA collaborates with the surgical and care teams, speaks with patients and families, orders and reviews diagnostic tests as needed, and monitors patients, including hemodynamics, adjusting the anesthetic plan accordingly. The role also calls for adapting care to the developmental needs of different patient populations.
Applicants need a bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited advanced practice program, with a master's, DNP or PhD preferred. A current, unrestricted license as a CRNA from the state board of nursing for each state of practice is required, or multi-state licensure privileges where the position calls for them. Certification through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists must be held and maintained, along with department-specific competencies. ACLS certification is preferred. Privileging and credentialing documents take precedence over this description in defining minimum qualifications and scope of practice.
