Full details

The role centers on selecting and giving intravenous, spinal, and other anesthetics before and during surgical or medical procedures, working as part of an anesthesia care team under the employer's policies. The CRNA watches patient responses and vital signs throughout anesthesia and recovery, steps in with corrective measures when needed, and files a postoperative report while keeping accurate anesthesia records.

Core duties include reviewing patients before procedures, such as checking charts, pre-operative medications, lab results, and personal devices or prostheses, and spotting possible airway difficulties. The nurse anesthetist documents each pre-anesthesia evaluation thoroughly, explains tests, procedures, and major anesthetic risks to patients and families, and confirms that those discussions are recorded.

Once a care plan is agreed with the supervising physician, the CRNA starts IV lines, selects and administers anesthetics suited to the patient's safety, surgical needs, and history, and manages the patient accordingly. The role also includes handing off patients to post-anesthesia care staff in a safety-focused exchange, preparing drug solutions at required concentrations, and reporting significant changes to the anesthesiologist or surgeon.

Procedures performed outside the operating room, such as intubation and arterial line placement, are carried out only within established competencies and physician orders, with progress notes documenting them. The employer notes that compensation reviews occur routinely and that job descriptions and pay status may be changed with notice to affected staff.
