The role centers on delivering anesthesia care to patients, starting with pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation and extending through induction, maintenance, emergence, and post-anesthesia recovery. The CRNA selects and gives anesthetic agents and related medications, supports vital functions throughout the perioperative period, and responds promptly when a patient has an unexpected reaction during anesthesia.

Core duties include taking a health history, confirming patient identity, ordering and reviewing relevant diagnostic tests, documenting the pre-anesthetic assessment, and obtaining informed consent. The provider places invasive lines and catheters, manages the airway through intubation and extubation, runs mechanical ventilation, performs arterial and venous punctures, draws blood samples, and carries out regional anesthesia. Fluid, blood, electrolyte, and acid-base balance are also managed, with invasive and non-invasive monitoring and ECG-based detection and treatment of heart rhythm disturbances.

During recovery, the CRNA assesses how the patient responds to anesthesia, starts medical or supportive treatment as needed, and provides follow-up and handoff reporting. Emergencies are handled, including participation in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and respiratory care is provided. Equipment safety checks, reporting of equipment needing repair, cleaning and sterilization, and supply ordering are part of the role, as are procedures performed outside the operating room, with charting in the electronic record.

The position is full time and based in Honolulu. Direct patient care is provided on an as-needed basis to keep clinical skills and licensure current. Work must stay within the scope of the provider's license and comply with applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, and the role calls for applying the organization's nursing vision, model, and values in daily practice.
