Full details
The position is a CRNA role at University Hospital, part of UofL Health, located at 530 South Jackson Street in Louisville, Kentucky. The health system describes itself as a regional academic network with five hospitals, four medical centers, and a large physician practice footprint, and it is focused on patient-centered care.
The CRNA provides all types of anesthesia, including general, monitored anesthesia care, and regional techniques. Responsibilities include completing pre-anesthetic assessments and recognizing when further studies or consultation are needed, obtaining anesthesia consent, and building and carrying out an anesthetic plan that covers drug selection, monitoring, and procedures such as invasive and non-invasive lines. The provider monitors patients continuously throughout the perioperative period, responds to abnormal reactions or surgical complications, and keeps an intraoperative anesthetic record.
Additional duties include safely transferring patients to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, managing emergencies such as starting and taking part in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, teaching and mentoring nurse anesthesia residents, and performing other assigned duties. The role also requires adherence to universal precautions, company policies, and HIPAA privacy and security rules.
Candidates must be graduates of a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia, hold an active Kentucky CRNA license, and be certified by the National Board of Certification for Nurse Anesthetists. Current Basic Life Support and American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support credentials are required. One year of experience as a CRNA is preferred.
The ideal candidate communicates well verbally and in writing, thinks critically through complex patient situations, and can help others build clinical reasoning. Strong organization, time management, teamwork, mentoring, and customer service skills are emphasized, along with the ability to learn the electronic documentation system and other relevant systems.
