Full details

A health center in Sedalia, Missouri, roughly an hour from Kansas City, is recruiting a CRNA to join a group of two board-certified anesthesiologists and four CRNAs. Anesthesiologists provide medical direction, and surgeons supervise when CRNAs take first call. All cases take place at a single 108-bed hospital.

Call is staffed at a ratio of about 1:7 to 1:8 for both primary and backup coverage. Backup call runs one week at a time, and call-backs are uncommon. Providers may take call from home as long as they can respond within 30 minutes.

The surgical department has five operating rooms, a PACU with six recovery bays, an omnicell in each OR suite, and 11 pre-op rooms, all located in the same area. Endoscopy has two procedure rooms, and the obstetrics unit has a dedicated OR. The hospital uses Meditech as its EMR, though OR charting is still done on paper.

The facility performs about 3,200 OR cases a year, with 26% inpatient and 74% outpatient. Common procedures include general surgery, OB/GYN, ENT, orthopedics, urology, and endoscopy. Heads, hearts, and spine cases are not performed, and robotics has not been introduced. Most cases wrap up by 3:30 pm.

The obstetrics service handles about 480 deliveries a year, with a 34% cesarean rate, 22% of which are primary cesareans. Around 62% of patients elect epidural labor analgesia.

Candidates with experience or new graduates may be considered. Applicants must be able to obtain a Missouri license and should have neuraxial and regional anesthesia skills. Experience with ultrasound-guided techniques is helpful but not required.

Compensation includes a base salary of $250,000 as a W2 employee, plus call pay under the 1:7 staffing model: $800 for weekday first call, $1,200 for weekend-day first call, $160 for weekday second call, and $240 for weekend-day second call. The package also offers student loan repayment, malpractice coverage of $2 million per occurrence and $6 million aggregate with tail coverage, 9.4 weeks of paid time off per year, and optional life, health, dental, and vision insurance.

Sedalia is described as a family-friendly community with a low cost of living and attractive neighborhoods. Lake of the Ozarks and Truman Lake are a short drive away, offering boating, skiing, and sandy beaches, and the area has four distinct seasons, low taxes, good schools, and relatively low real estate prices.
