Full details
The position is based at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and is a direct hire opening within a military treatment facility. The anesthetist provides independent, comprehensive anesthesia care for obstetric and surgical patients, selecting the anesthesia type and delivery method best suited to each of a wide range of procedures. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized for highly qualified candidates, and salary negotiation may be available for those new to federal service.
Scheduled work includes three 24-hour in-house Labor and Delivery shifts and one 8-hour Operating Room shift each pay period. The role also involves recognizing emergencies and sudden changes in a patient's condition, alerting the surgeon, and drawing on the perioperative and anesthesia teams for help as needed. Life-saving care and procedures are expected during emergencies.
Applicants must be US citizens holding a graduate or higher degree from an anesthesia nursing program accredited by a recognized body, with transcripts attached. They must also hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted professional nursing license, have passed the National Council Licensure Examination, and hold a license in anesthesia or a related specialty from a US state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a US territory. Foreign-educated applicants need Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools certification. Qualifying experience must be at least one full year of professional nursing work that includes administering anesthesia for surgical and medical procedures, reviewing patient records before procedures, and monitoring vital signs to catch critical changes; education cannot substitute for this experience.
The appointment carries a one-year probationary period, direct deposit of pay, and selection subject to Department of Defense referral rules. Salary includes locality pay or a local market supplement, and the agency will not pay permanent change of station costs.
