Full details

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking a per-diem Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for its Main Campus in Jackson. The nurse anesthetist assesses patient care needs and delivers anesthesia for surgical patients, including procedures in surgical, obstetric, therapeutic and diagnostic settings. Responsibilities include meeting with patients before surgery to discuss their anesthetic options, monitoring how each patient responds to anesthesia, and adjusting care as needed.

Preoperative duties include evaluating each patient's physical condition and anesthetic risks, planning the approach, and explaining the plan and obtaining informed consent. After procedures, the nurse anesthetist completes post-anesthesia evaluations and follows up on any complications. The role also involves responding to urgent needs related to invasive monitoring, intravenous access and airway management.

The position includes teaching and mentoring student nurse anesthetists, residents and other allied health staff, and supporting the professional growth of colleagues. The nurse anesthetist reports quality and safety concerns arising from cases and helps develop and evaluate measures to improve performance.

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited CRNA program and hold current certification from the Mississippi Board of Nursing or another state's board. Students within 180 days of graduation, in their final semester, may also be considered. Certification as a CRNA is required at the time of hire.

The work is hourly and not FLSA-exempt, with an FTE of zero listed. The physical demands include frequent standing, constant walking, and occasional lifting of more than 100 pounds, along with occasional exposure to noise, radiation, blood-borne pathogens and hazardous chemicals that call for safety precautions. Occasional extended hours and travel to off-site locations may also be required.
