Full details
This full-time CRNA position is based at the Main Campus in Jackson, within the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The role centers on assessing patients' needs and delivering anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including local, general, inhalation, regional and intravenous techniques, under medical direction or supervision.
Responsibilities include evaluating patients before surgery to determine their physical status and anesthetic risk, discussing the plan and obtaining informed consent, monitoring patients' reactions during care, and following up on any post-operative complications. The nurse anesthetist also responds to urgent needs involving invasive monitoring, IV access and airway management, and documents case-based quality and safety concerns along with improvement measures.
The position includes teaching and mentoring student nurse anesthetists, residents and other allied health staff, and supporting the professional growth of colleagues on request. The listed duties are illustrative rather than exhaustive, and management may adjust them over time.
Candidates must hold a degree from an accredited CRNA program and be currently certified as a certified registered nurse anesthetist by the Mississippi Board of Nursing or by another state's board. Students nearing graduation may qualify if they finish within 180 days of their final semester, but certification is required by the time of hire.
The job involves frequent standing and constant walking, occasional lifting of more than 100 pounds, and occasional exposure to noise, radiation, blood-borne pathogens and hazardous chemicals, along with occasional off-site travel and hours beyond the usual schedule. The posting lists the pay class as hourly or salary and identifies the position as exempt under FLSA rules. It was posted on November 3, 2026, and remains open until filled.
