Full details
This locum tenens role for a CRNA is based in Minnesota and runs from September 1, 2026 on an ongoing basis. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend shifts possible. Weekday shifts run 8, 10, or 12 hours, while weekend shifts run 12 or 16 hours, and each shift includes a 30-minute unpaid meal break.
Placements span several facilities: a 344-bed tertiary Level I trauma hospital in St. Mary's Medical Center, an outpatient surgery center at Essentia Health Miller Hill with four operating rooms, St. Mary's Hospital in Superior, Wisconsin with two operating rooms and two endoscopy suites that handle mostly outpatient surgery, and Essentia Health in Duluth, a 165-bed site with eleven operating rooms and a largely outpatient caseload, plus an outpatient endoscopy center.
Surgical volume is heavy, typically one or two lengthier procedures or three to four shorter ones in an eight-hour day. The case mix covers nearly every specialty except transplant and pediatric heart surgery, including cardiac, complete orthopedic, complex vascular, head and spine, neurologic, obstetric, pediatric, regional, and thoracic work. The CRNA would provide one-to-one anesthesia care in the operating rooms, cath lab, GI suite, EP lab, MRI, and CT as needed, and would treat patients of every age at the trauma center.
Required clinical skills include general anesthesia for adults, children, neonates, and trauma patients, along with spinal and regional techniques, obstetric and neurosurgical anesthesia, open heart and thoracic anesthesia, complex vascular and orthopedic cases, ventilator management, treatment of acute volume and blood pressure problems, and arterial line placement.
Credentialing is estimated to take 45 to 120 days. Candidates must hold board certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists, or be a graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program who is awaiting initial certification. Current CPR and BCLS/ACLS certifications are required. A master's or doctoral degree from an accredited anesthesia school is needed, along with a Minnesota RN anesthetist license or the ability to obtain one.
