Full details

This part-time position at Allegheny Health Network provides anesthetic care to patients in the surgical setting. The CRNA assesses, plans, evaluates, and carries out anesthetic management for every patient receiving anesthesia care, and keeps accurate medical records; this documentation takes up the largest share of the role at roughly 45 percent. The clinician watches patients under anesthesia without pause, responds to and corrects abnormal reactions, and consults the attending physician on the plan of care and on any issue beyond the CRNA's knowledge or scope of practice, which together account for about 35 percent of the work.

Additional duties include taking part in and developing performance or quality improvement efforts (about 10 percent), following legal and ethical nursing standards along with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists guidelines, and maintaining safety protocols and regulatory compliance (about 5 percent). The CRNA also serves as a clinical resource for the wider healthcare team and may mentor new staff or students (about 5 percent), and performs other assigned tasks as needed.

Candidates need a current Pennsylvania RN license or a current multistate license under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. Certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists is required, and prior CRNA experience is preferred. Required credentials include American Heart Association CPR, PALS, and ACLS, along with an Act 34 criminal background clearance, an Act 33 child abuse clearance, and an Act 73 FBI fingerprinting background clearance.
