Full details

This part-time position at Allegheny General Hospital provides anesthetic care to patients in the surgical setting, and roles of 30 or more hours per week are bonus eligible. The CRNA assesses, plans, evaluates and carries out anesthetic management for every patient needing anesthesia care, and keeps accurate medical records, which makes up the largest share of the work. Much of the day involves continuously monitoring anesthetized patients and correcting abnormal responses, while keeping the attending physician informed of the plan of care and involving the physician in decisions that fall outside the CRNA's knowledge or scope of practice.

The role also includes taking part in developing and running performance and quality improvement efforts, following the legal and ethical standards of nursing and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and observing safety rules and regulatory requirements. The CRNA serves as a clinical resource for the wider healthcare team and may mentor new staff or students, along with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include current Pennsylvania RN licensure or current multistate licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, and certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. Previous CRNA experience is preferred. Candidates must also hold current American Heart Association CPR, PALS and ACLS credentials and complete several clearances, including Act 34 and Act 33 certificates, an Act 73 FBI fingerprinting background clearance.
