Full details

Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, the largest of the four Duke Health hospitals, is seeking a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The hospital is consistently ranked among the best in the United States and includes a regional emergency and trauma center and an endo-surgery center.

CRNAs in this role administer general anesthetics for surgical, obstetrical and other procedures, monitor patients throughout the case, and manage post-anesthesia recovery. They also prepare drugs, supplies and equipment, including testing the gas machine, and keep anesthetic records. Supervision and teaching duties include overseeing student nurse anesthetists and instructing residents, interns and allied health students.

The campus is a level 1 trauma center, and CRNAs cover nights, weekends and in-house call, with the frequency depending on the schedule type. Some no-call shifts are available, and obstetrics and pediatric cases are offered.

Candidates need a graduate degree from an accredited MSN, DNP or DNAP nurse anesthesia program, along with CRNA certification or eligibility for AANA certification, which is required for new graduates. A current RN license issued by or recognized by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, with approval to practice as a CRNA, is also required. New graduates are welcome, and no experience beyond CRNA education and training is needed.

Incentives include a $60,000 commitment bonus for new grad and experienced CRNAs, paid in $10,000 installments every six months over 36 months. Full-time CRNAs working in a hospital setting receive a $15,000 annual stipend for each fiscal year from July 1 to June 30, paid monthly according to FTE status and prorated for less than full time. A $2,500 annual CME allowance is provided for full-time staff, prorated for those working less, and a $8,000 relocation budget is available for CRNAs moving 50 miles or more from a North Carolina primary residence to a Duke facility.
