Full details

Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for a regular, on-site full-time position. The hospital has 388 beds, making it the second largest of Duke Health's four hospitals, and provides medical, surgical, and diagnostic care, with particular strength in orthopedics, weight-loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services.

The CRNA delivers general anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures. Responsibilities include reviewing patient records to anticipate anesthetic effects, preparing drugs, supplies, and equipment, testing the gas machine, confirming emergency blood availability, monitoring vital signs, and managing airway secretions when needed. The role also covers preparing patients and explaining the procedure, documenting care, moving patients to recovery and addressing post-anesthesia complications, and cleaning up the workspace and reporting equipment problems.

The position includes supervising and teaching student nurse anesthetists, evaluating their clinical progress, and instructing residents, interns, and allied health students in anesthesia techniques. The CRNA also keeps records of every anesthetic given and prepares periodic activity reports, along with other related duties.

Candidates need a graduate degree from an accredited MSN, DNP, or DNAP CRNA program and a current North Carolina Board of Nursing RN license that permits CRNA practice. New graduates are welcome, and certification eligibility from the AANA is required for new grads. No prior experience is needed beyond CRNA education and training.

Incentives for full-time CRNAs include a $60,000 commitment bonus for new graduates and experienced CRNAs, paid in $10,000 increments every six months over 36 months, and eligibility extends to PRNs with more than five years of current Duke PRN experience. CRNAs in hospital settings receive a $15,000 annual stipend for 1.0 FTE, prorated for lower FTE and paid monthly, for each fiscal year running July 1 to June 30. A $2,500 annual CME allowance applies to 1.0 FTE, prorated for less. An $8,000 relocation budget is available to CRNAs moving 50 miles or more, from a North Carolina primary residence to a Duke facility.
