Full details

Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking certified registered nurse anesthetists for per diem work at its main campus in Boston, Massachusetts. The role is an advanced practice position in a large academic medical center with a long history and a strong medical school affiliation, and it offers the chance to build clinical skills alongside an active anesthesia team. The CRNA works as a board-certified, licensed clinician providing anesthesia care to patients across the organization, including reviewing medical histories, giving and managing anesthesia, and monitoring patients during procedures and through the perioperative period. The CRNA must also keep documentation showing continued registration as a nurse anesthetist.

The hospital describes its CRNAs as part of an integrated care team that works closely with anesthesiologists. New graduates receive an extensive orientation and training program along with regularly scheduled check-ins, and the department emphasizes teaching, learning and innovation. Departmental perks include meeting time and an educational stipend.

Candidates need a master's degree in nurse anesthesia practice, current NBCRNA certification, and BLS and ACLS certification. Massachusetts registered nurse licensure is preferred, and experience of zero to one year, including new graduates, is preferred. Desired skills include a foreign language useful for the patient population, strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and related sciences, clear communication with surgeons, staff and patients, calm response in emergencies, and the ability to keep up with current anesthesia practice and apply clinical guidelines.

Clinical duties include placing IVs, arterial and central lines, and performing spinals, epidurals, fiberoptic intubations and occasional regional blocks. Cases span a broad range, from trauma and burns to pediatrics, and the setting is fast-paced and team based. Some sites offer regional and cardiac work, and the position promises growing autonomy and access to the full scope of anesthesia practice over time.

The pay range listed is $200.00 per hour at the top to $146.64 per hour, and the posting notes that final pay depends on skills, experience, education and certifications. Benefits include differentials, premiums and bonuses where applicable, along with career advancement and recognition programs. The position is onsite at 101 Merrimac Street and works day shifts.
