The anesthesia team cares for a wide range of complex patients, from pediatrics to neurology, transplant, plastics, trauma and outpatient procedures. The organization works under a medically directed model that emphasizes partnership and collaboration. Ongoing education is part of the role, with visiting professors, weekly grand rounds and morbidity and mortality conferences available.
Duties center on delivering anesthesia under the direction of University of Wisconsin anesthesiology faculty physicians. The CRNA works with administrative, nursing, physician and other staff to deliver safe, high-quality care and supports the institution's teaching and research goals. The setting is academic, with considerable chances to take part in student registered nurse anesthetist education. Typical cases include neuro, spine, orthopedic trauma, obstetric and gynecologic surgery, acute general surgery, transplant, plastics, trauma, cardiac catheterization lab work and outpatient surgery.
Benefits include health and dental coverage, retirement plans, two weeks of paid parental leave and adoption assistance. Part-time staff at 60% FTE or higher receive full benefits. Schedule options are varied, tuition assistance is available, and wellness programs are offered.
