Full details
A hospital in northern Maine is recruiting two full-time CRNAs to join its anesthesia staff across five operating rooms. The surgical department handles about 210 cases a month, among them roughly 20 deliveries. The suites are equipped with modern anesthesia technology, and CRNAs are expected to work as active, independent members of the anesthesia team.
Daily hours generally run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with little trauma work. The case mix is roughly half general surgery, which includes eye and urology procedures, followed by about a quarter orthopedic cases, 10 percent obstetrics and gynecology, and 15 percent other surgeries. Head and heart procedures are not performed at this facility. CRNAs take call one day in five, and the call burden is described as reasonable and manageable.
Applicants need BLS and ACLS certification, AANA certification, and a Maine license. The role calls for skill in general, spinal, obstetric, pediatric and thoracic anesthesia (excluding open heart), Bier blocks, airway management and ventilation in the OR, and arterial line placement. Experience with epidural and peripheral nerve blocks is a plus. The hospital already employs three full-time CRNAs and two full-time anesthesiologists, and practices under a medical supervision model that gives CRNAs considerable flexibility and autonomy.
CRNAs are hospital employees paid a competitive annual salary that can be negotiated based on experience, plus an additional call pay stipend. Relocation help, forgivable education loan assistance and continuing education support are available. Benefits include health insurance with employee and family options, dental coverage, prescription and over-the-counter medication options, flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care, basic employer-paid life insurance with dependent and supplemental options, short- and long-term disability coverage, accident and critical illness insurance, whole life insurance, 457(b) and 401(a) retirement plans, and employee discounts on hospital and community services.
The surrounding city has a growing economy, a strong public school system with a 14:1 student-to-teacher ratio, low crime, and a new multimillion-dollar recreation and wellness center with plans for a fitness center and indoor pool. The region offers lakes, access to the ocean, and outdoor pursuits such as hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking and skiing, including a cross-country skiing venue that has hosted World Cup and Paralympic events. Summers and winters both have seasonal recreation, and a regional airport is located in nearby Presque Isle.
