Full details
The position is a full-time, benefits-eligible role for 40 hours per week, with a pay range of $97.75 to $156.40. The CRNA provides the full span of anesthesia services, covering pre-anesthesia, intraoperative and post-anesthesia care, including general, regional and monitored anesthesia care, in step with the anesthesia plan and alongside the surgeon, anesthesiologist and surgical team.
Core work includes performing preoperative evaluations, examining patients, securing informed consent, ordering and giving premedications, and reviewing or requesting preoperative studies. The CRNA prepares equipment, supplies and drugs before each case, runs induction, maintenance and emergence, and chooses and gives anesthetic agents, adjuncts, fluids and temperature-management devices while watching how the patient responds. After surgery the CRNA stays with the patient until care is safely handed off, gives epidural and other postoperative pain control with the surgeon, and follows up on any anesthesia-related complications.
When emergencies arise, the CRNA assesses and stabilizes the patient, decides on disposition, and manages the airway, including advanced airway techniques, while applying resuscitation skills at the appropriate level. The role also requires accurate and timely charting in the electronic medical record and compliant coding and billing of professional services. Additional duties include taking part in quality, safety and peer review work, committees and team meetings, teaching new staff and students, and pursuing ongoing professional development.
Because the setting is pediatric, the practitioner must show command of care suited to patient age and understand growth and development across the lifespan, using that knowledge to assess each child and meet age-specific needs under departmental policies. Candidates need a Master's degree in nursing, an active RN license, an APRN credential valid in the state of practice, national CRNA certification, and an active DEA registration before hire. Illinois practice also requires a state controlled substance license. Life-support certifications such as ACLS, PALS and NRP are required as the site or role dictates, to be obtained before hire or within six months of starting. No prior experience is required.
The ideal candidate demonstrates high clinical skill, sound judgment, the ability to work independently and within a team, adaptability to new technology, strong communication and relationship-building, and solid organizational habits. The job is physically demanding: the employee must have functional vision and hearing, lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lift 20 pounds overhead, carry 40 pounds, push or pull 30 pounds of force, and assist with a 150-pound sliding transfer alongside a second person. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and reaching are expected, and exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation and bodily-fluid hazards is continuous, with protective gear used as needed.
Advocate Health describes its compensation and benefits package as including base pay within the posted range, premium pay for shifts and on-call work, possible incentive pay, annual performance-based increases, medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, family benefits such as paid parental leave, retirement plans with employer match, and an educational assistance program. The system is a large nonprofit, integrated health network headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, operating under several regional names and known for its clinical programs, including pediatrics.
