Full details

This full-time, benefits-eligible position is based at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center main campus in the pediatrics anesthesiology department, with a 40-hour weekly schedule and various shift availability. The pay range listed is $114.70 to $183.50.

The lead CRNA works with physician and operational leaders to refine clinical practice and support other activities that move performance and strategic goals forward. Responsibilities include taking part in local quality improvement and workflow projects, helping recruit and interview physicians and advanced practice providers, and contributing to annual performance reviews and check-ins with new hires. The role also involves coordinating onboarding for advanced practice providers, promoting local engagement and well-being initiatives, supporting communication between clinicians and operational leaders, and mentoring providers' professional development. The lead collaborates with market directors, service line councils and other councils on matters tied to the specialty.

Clinical duties cover assessing patients and setting or adjusting treatment plans suited to age, acuity and condition, including ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies and prescribing medications and non-drug therapies. The CRNA counsels patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention and disease management, works within an interdisciplinary team, and escalates care when more urgent or specialized support is needed. Documentation in the electronic medical record must be accurate and timely, and professional services must follow compliant coding and billing practices. The role also includes performing procedures within the specialty, the provider's competency and granted privileges.

Other expectations include participating in quality, safety and peer review efforts and committees, educating new team members, students and other health professionals, and pursuing continuing clinical and professional development. The CRNA must meet productivity, access, face-to-face time and quality standards to keep patient care safe and timely. Care must be suited to patients' developmental stage, so the provider needs knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and the ability to interpret patient data for age-specific needs, following departmental policies and job standards.

Minimum requirements include an active RN license, an APRN or other advanced practice license in the state of practice, and active national certification as a CRNA from the NBCRNA. An active DEA registration is needed before hire, and an active Illinois Controlled Substance License is also required for Illinois practice. ACLS, PALS and NRP certifications are required as the site or role dictates, obtained before hire or within six months of it. A Master's degree in nursing is required, and no prior experience is required.

Desired skills include a high level of clinical proficiency, strong decision-making, independent work and effective teamwork, adaptability to evolving technology, and skill with the electronic medical record. Strong communication, relationship-building and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities are also expected.

Physical demands include functional vision and hearing, lifting up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lifting 20 pounds overhead, carrying 40 pounds a reasonable distance, pushing or pulling 30 pounds of force, and assisting a sliding transfer of 150 pounds with a second person present. The work involves operating foot pedals and equipment, frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and reaching, and continuous exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation and bodily-fluid hazards, with gloves, goggles and gowns worn as needed.
