This continuous open announcement covers a CRNA role at Irwin Army Community Hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas, a direct hire solicitation with multiple vacancies that may be filled as they arise. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates are considered as openings become available.
The anesthetist will deliver anesthesia and related services under hospital regulatory, licensing and credentialing rules, following the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists guidelines for nurse anesthesia practice and its code of ethics. The role also involves reviewing patient care processes to confirm that procedures meet Joint Commission and other hospital regulatory standards. Mentoring and oversight of CRNAs, students, trainees, rotating and temporary staff, and other hospital personnel in both clinical and administrative matters is part of the position. The anesthetist will contribute to departmental continuous improvement efforts focused on recent developments in anesthesiology and act as a resource consultant to a range of health professionals on advances in nurse anesthesia and nursing practice.
Eligibility is limited to US citizens. Candidates need a graduate or higher degree from an anesthesia nursing program accredited by an recognized body such as the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, with transcripts attached to the application. Foreign-educated applicants must hold certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. A current, active, full and unrestricted professional nursing license from a US state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or a US territory is required, along with NCLEX passage, and an anesthesia specialty license or registration is also needed. Applicants must have at least one full year of professional nursing experience including administering anesthetics, monitoring anesthetized patients, and providing staff or patient education, at the level of GS-11 work; an alternate route exists for current or former Department of War nurses who completed a bachelor's or graduate degree after starting that work.
The position is intermittent, with no guaranteed weekly hours and work assigned on an as-needed basis, and it will not convert to full-time. Intermittent staff do not receive health, life insurance, annual or sick leave. The appointment may instead be temporary or term, and may be time-limited. The role is designated both inclement weather essential and mission essential, so the incumbent may be required to report during emergencies. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete Selective Service registration certification, and direct deposit of pay is mandatory. A one-year trial or probationary period may apply, and uniforms or protective clothing may be required. Salary includes locality pay or a local market supplement, relocation incentives may be authorized for strong candidates, and PCS costs are not covered.
