Full details
This PRN position calls for a CRNA to deliver anesthesia to pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other procedures that require it, working as part of a care team alongside an anesthesiologist. Care follows the standards of the Department of Anesthesiology and hospital policy, and the CRNA is responsible for the patient from the preoperative period through transfer to the postoperative area. The role involves constant attentive monitoring of the patient's condition, adjusting care as needed, and promptly alerting the attending anesthesiologist to any critical event or change that threatens safety.
Core responsibilities include taking part in pre-anesthetic evaluations and choosing agents and techniques, placing intravenous and invasive monitoring lines, performing intubation and extubation, and carrying out arterial punctures for blood gas analysis. The CRNA manages induction, maintenance, and emergence for general, regional, and monitored anesthesia cases, handles fluid and blood product administration, documents the anesthesia record, and checks equipment and supplies before beginning care. Airway management is expected to be excellent, with familiarity across airway adjuncts such as bullard scopes, fiberoptic scopes, and ILMA devices. The CRNA also helps teach and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, student nurse anesthetists, and graduate nurse anesthetists, and is accountable for controlled substances under policy and state and federal rules.
Candidates need a current registered nurse license in West Virginia or in whichever state the services are performed, along with current certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. The job may require on-call duty, night, weekend, or holiday work, and the posted weekly hours are zero with a varied shift. The position is listed at the UHA Anesthesiology department at 1325 Locust Avenue in Fairmont, West Virginia. The role also demands calm performance under high stress, reliability, adaptability, and close-range visual detail, and it involves exposure to infectious agents and hazardous substances.
