Full details
The North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System is recruiting a Certified Nurse Anesthetist for its Anesthesiology Service, seeking an experienced, dynamic clinician who will help advance quality care standards and the growth of an academic VA hospital program. The appointment is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan repayment benefit, with award amounts and eligibility periods set by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after application review. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis through December 31, 2026, with an initial cut-off on April 6, 2026, and referrals made every two weeks until positions are filled.
Working as a Licensed Independent Provider, the nurse anesthetist practices autonomously while coordinating with surgeons and other clinicians to deliver safe, effective anesthesia. Core responsibilities include pre-anesthesia evaluation and plan development, administering all forms of anesthesia, managing emergency airway and resuscitation needs across the facility, post-anesthetic recovery care, and clear communication with surgical teams and patients about the plan and any intraoperative changes. The role also involves serving as a resource for staff education and acting as a preceptor and adjunct clinical faculty for trainees rotating through the facility.
Qualifications include U.S. citizenship, a master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from a COA-accredited program, one full and unrestricted state or territory license, and current certification from the NBCRNA or an equivalent COA-recognized credential. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required. Entry is at the Nurse II level with no experience required, and the full performance level is Grade III, requiring one year of specialized CNA experience. Candidates lacking the certification or licensure may be considered for a temporary appointment under specified authority.
The position is full-time, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., though the supervisor may assign various shifts based on patient care needs. It is an on-site role with no telework and no relocation incentives. Federal benefits include competitive pay with regular increases and possible performance awards, 50 paid days off per year, a traditional federal pension with a federal 401K match of up to 5%, and federal health, vision, dental, life and long-term care insurance.
