Full details

The Denver Health Department of Anesthesiology employs 20 attending physicians and 42 CRNAs to deliver perioperative care within a large safety-net health system. CRNAs practice in a collaborative setting, where they assess patients before surgery, develop the anesthetic plan, and deliver anesthesia independently, with an anesthesiologist available for consultation when needed. Obstetric anesthesia is part of the role and covers cesarean deliveries, epidurals, dilation and curettage, and tubal ligations, whether scheduled or emergent.

Core responsibilities include pre-anesthetic evaluation and informed discussion of risks, benefits, and alternatives with patients and families, along with a tailored anesthetic plan that accounts for surgical needs and the patient's physical and emotional state. The CRNA monitors patient reactions, adjusts the plan as needed, escalates urgent situations and requests attending input when appropriate, and handles post-anesthesia evaluation, discharge, and handoff of care. Patient transport to and from the anesthetizing location and postoperative oversight are also included, along with accurate documentation, including controlled drug records.

Additional duties involve taking assigned on-call shifts, attending monthly department meetings, contributing to patient teaching materials and care manuals, completing continuing education beyond the minimum, and taking part in in-service education and teaching conferences. The CRNA also trains resident registered nurse anesthetists and supports faculty in educating other trainees.

Required qualifications include a master's degree in a directly related field, one to three years of related experience, and active licensure as a registered nurse in Colorado, BLS certification, and CRNA certification. Candidates should be skilled with anesthesia equipment, able to communicate clearly with physicians, patients, and staff, capable of managing ICU ventilator patients, high-risk intubations, and fiberoptic intubations, and comfortable with computer systems.

The position is a regular full-time role with a stated salary range of $241,800.00 to $259,100.00 per year. The benefits package includes health, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off beginning at 28 days a year, paid parental leave, an employer retirement contribution of up to 9.5%, employer-paid disability and life insurance, tuition assistance, and eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. The posting also cites an obstetric night differential of $50 per hour and extremely flexible scheduling. Denver Health is a Level I trauma center system located near downtown Denver, and applicants must pass a pre-employment drug test after a conditional offer.
