Full details
UPMC Shadyside is offering a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist position within the Anesthesiology Department of University of Pittsburgh Physicians. The schedule is built around either five eight-hour shifts or four ten-hour shifts, along with four Saturdays of on-call duty each year.
The hospital is a 520-bed tertiary academic teaching center holding Magnet designation and performing more than 19,000 surgeries annually. Its anesthesia footprint spans 21 main operating rooms, six ambulatory surgery operating rooms, a bronchoscopy lab, two gastrointestinal labs, two electrophysiology labs, interventional radiology, CT and MRI suites, a dedicated airway team, and radiation oncology. Cases span outpatient surgery, surgical oncology, plastics, orthopedics, cardiac and hybrid TAVR procedures, neurosurgery, complex urology, ENT, general surgery, robotic procedures, and thoracic surgery.
The employer describes a career ladder that rewards advancement, with 87 percent of its CRNAs having moved up within it, and a tier program that raises pay at credentialed sites. Other listed incentives include a sign-on package with substantial bonuses, relocation support, and recognition for flexibility across sites. Benefits include generous paid time off, paid parental leave, and access to continuing education resources.
In this role, the CRNA delivers anesthetic care to every patient in partnership with a supervising physician, following department standards and hospital policy. Duties include giving anesthesia and associated care from the start of preparation through recovery and peri-operative support, watching how patients respond to sedatives and anesthetic agents, and alerting the anesthesiologist to any condition that could endanger safety. The CRNA is accountable for controlled substances under departmental, hospital, state, and federal rules.
Additional responsibilities include reviewing consent documentation, confirming the correct surgical site with the surgeon and operating room staff, and helping teach and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and SRNAs. The position also takes part in quality improvement work through documentation, incident reporting, evaluation, education, and implementation of changes.
