Full details
Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for full-time work with several shift options. The CRNA delivers general, regional and monitored anesthesia for planned and urgent operative and obstetric cases. Work is performed under the direction of an attending anesthesiologist, who may assign procedures that the CRNA carries out independently within that supervision.
Responsibilities include assessing patients before surgery and, together with the attending anesthesiologist, building and executing an anesthetic plan. The CRNA watches and documents each patient's response to anesthesia and adjusts the plan as needed. Moving patients safely to and from the site where anesthesia is given, and overseeing their care after surgery, are also part of the role. The CRNA additionally mentors and guides student nurse anesthetists with a focus on patient safety.
Caseload spans cardiac, pediatric, vascular, trauma, neurosurgical, plastic, radiologic and specialty procedures. Department members work alongside anesthesiologists, residents, student nurse anesthetists and anesthesia technicians. Leadership, quality improvement and specialty team roles are open to interested staff, and stipends exist for certain service lines.
A $50,000 signing bonus and a relocation incentive of up to $10,000, taxable and paid within 45 days of hire, are offered to eligible applicants. Eligibility requires not having worked for the medical center in the prior 12 months and, for relocation, moving more than 100 miles. The signing bonus applies only to full-time positions.
Qualifications include graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia program, or expected graduation within 9 to 12 months, plus registered nurse licensure and CRNA certification. Candidates who can obtain licensure or certification within 90 days may be considered, subject to state rules. Benefits include health plan options, dental and or vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan, flexible paid time off, tuition and adoption assistance, short- and long-term disability coverage, and subsidized backup childcare.
