Full details
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking a full-time Pediatric Cardiac Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist to join its Department of Anesthesiology. The nurse anesthetist delivers anesthesia of several types, including general, regional, and monitored sedation, for planned and urgent operative and obstetric cases, working under the direction of an attending anesthesiologist for procedures that require that oversight.
Core duties include assessing patients before surgery, building an anesthesia plan with the attending anesthesiologist, tracking each patient's response to anesthetic agents and adjusting the plan as needed, moving patients safely to and from the place where anesthesia is given, and overseeing recovery after surgery. The role also involves supervising, teaching, and advising student nurse anesthetists with a focus on patient safety.
A $50,000 signing bonus and a relocation incentive are offered, subject to eligibility. Candidates must not have worked for the medical center in the previous 12 months, and the signing bonus applies only to full-time positions. The relocation payment is up to $10,000, taxed as income, paid within 45 days of hire, and requires moving more than 100 miles and not being current or recent staff.
Applicants need to be graduates of an accredited nurse anesthesia program, or be due to graduate within 9 to 12 months. Required credentials are a Tennessee registered nurse license and CRNA certification, though candidates who can obtain these within 90 days may be considered under state rules. The posting lists a master's degree and less than one year of relevant experience.
The department reports roughly 350 CRNAs covering cardiac, pediatric, vascular, trauma, neurosurgical, plastic, radiologic, and specialty procedures. Opportunities include leadership, quality improvement, and specialty service lines, with stipends available for certain programs, along with continuing education support. The department hosts student nurse anesthetists from several programs and reports a 95% staff retention rate.
Benefits described include health plan options, dental and or vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan, flexible paid time off, tuition and adoption assistance, short- and long-term disability coverage, subsidized backup childcare, and an inpatient nursing supplemental pay program. The shifts are full-time with several options.
