University Hospitals is recruiting Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists for its community-based anesthesia team in Elyria. The setting is described as close-knit, with clinicians known to one another, and the work is said to connect directly with the surrounding community while drawing on the stability and resources of the wider UH system. The anesthetists would work collaboratively within the Anesthesia Care Team alongside anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, trainees and other health professionals. Experienced practitioners and new graduates are both invited to build a practice suited to their interests and goals.
Responsibilities include interviewing patients and reviewing key data to confirm they are ready for anesthesia, explaining the anesthetic plan and its risks to patients and families, and placing access lines and starting pre-operative therapies. The role also covers preparing equipment and medications, assisting during induction, maintenance and emergence under team guidelines, safely transferring patients to the post-operative area, and handing off care to recovery nurses. Clinicians may also be called on to secure airways, including intubation, as part of a hospital resuscitation team. Other duties may be assigned, and the department provides detailed role documentation during orientation.
The primary base is UH Geauga Medical Center, with travel to other community hospinals on the east side as needed. On-call duty totals 36 to 48 hours per month.
Benefits described include competitive pay, a sign-on bonus of up to $30,000, enhanced paid time off for those with five or more years of experience, comprehensive benefits including retirement plans, professional and CME support, career ladder progression and flexible scheduling. New graduates may also qualify for a student loan repayment program of up to $15,000.
