Full details
This per diem position is for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who works under the supervision of a physician anesthesiologist with privileges to provide anesthesia services. Except in emergencies, all anesthesia is delivered under the attending anesthesiologist's supervision. The scheduled hours are described as as-needed, and the work shift is listed as days, in the GMC Anesthesia department.
Core duties include performing and documenting pre-anesthetic assessments, requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, ordering pre-anesthetic medications and fluids, and obtaining informed consent. The CRNA helps develop anesthetic care plans and starts general, regional, local, or sedation techniques under medical direction. Other responsibilities cover placing non-invasive and invasive monitoring, giving anesthetics and adjuvant drugs, managing the airway and pulmonary function, guiding emergence, and providing post-anesthesia care and follow-up. The role also includes acute and chronic pain management, emergency response with advanced or basic cardiac life support, and regional anesthesia such as labor epidurals.
The CRNA transfers patient care safely to other anesthesia providers or to nursing and intensive care staff, passing along all pertinent clinical information. Documentation must be complete, accurate, and timely in the medical record and must support billing and compliance with state and federal rules. The position also involves infection precautions, safety measures against fire, explosion, equipment failure, and electrical shock, and checking equipment readiness. Assistance with patient positioning and ongoing assessment is included.
Additional expectations include helping with data collection, reporting, quality and risk management, and compliance work, along with attending mandatory departmental and CRNA staff meetings. The CRNA takes part in training and education initiatives and in other committees and interdepartmental work as directed. The supervising physician is responsible for the quality and appropriateness of the CRNA's care, and the CRNA must notify patients before any billable service if billing independently.
Minimum qualifications are a master's degree, national CRNA certification from the NBCRNA, Ohio registered nurse licensure, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association. The listed years of experience is zero.
