Full details

The role involves giving anesthesia to patients during surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures that cause pain, working under physician supervision. The CRNA works within a collaborative team that includes residents, fellows, attending physicians, and other staff involved in patient care.

Core responsibilities include documenting procedures and any incidents, evaluating patients before, during, and after anesthesia, and keeping patient safety at the center of practice while using accepted anesthesia techniques. The position also serves as a liaison among surgeons, anesthesiologists, colleagues, patients, and families, takes part in departmental quality assurance work, and pursues professional development. Anesthesia care is tailored to each patient group, with attention to privacy, how the patient is introduced to the care team, how procedures are explained, and how permission is requested.

Candidates need a master's degree from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. No prior work experience is required. Required credentials include an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in the state of practice, AANA certification, and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association. Strong computer and keyboard skills, clear verbal and written communication, and comfort with a flexible schedule that may include 24/7, weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts are also expected.

The work is classified as medium physical demand, with prolonged standing and routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue, along with other occupational risks typical of a healthcare setting. The posting notes that the duties summarized are not exhaustive and may change. Ochsner describes a sign-on bonus of 30K for this full-time opening. Remote eligibility depends on the posting, and several states are excluded from remote roles.
