Full details

The role is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist position in Lafayette, Louisiana, where the nurse anesthetist gives anesthesia during surgical, obstetrical, and other painful clinical procedures under a physician's supervision. The work is done within a collaborative team that includes residents, fellows, attending physicians, and other staff caring for patients.

Core responsibilities include documenting procedures and any incidents, assessing patients before, during, and after anesthesia, and keeping patient safety at the center of each case while following accepted practice techniques. The nurse anesthetist also serves as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, colleagues, patients, and families, takes part in department quality assurance efforts and professional development activities, and adjusts communication and bedside approach to each patient group, including privacy, introductions, explanations, and consent requests. Other related duties may be assigned.

Required education is a master's degree from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and no prior work experience is required. Candidates need a license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of practice, certification from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association. The position calls for solid computer and keyboard skills for charting and retrieving patient information, clear verbal and written communication, and flexibility to work around-the-clock shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage.

Staff are regularly exposed to blood, body fluids, and tissue, and may face risk from hazardous medications and waste common in healthcare settings. The posting notes that a remote option may exist depending on the role, but residents of several listed states are not eligible for remote work.

The employer, Ochsner Health, is an equal opportunity employer that maintains a compliance and privacy program and expects staff to report concerns promptly. Accommodation requests for the application process are handled through its HR support line.
