Anesthesia care team

Full details

The position involves giving anesthesia to patients during surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures that cause pain, working under a physician's supervision. The CRNA works within a collaborative team that includes residents, fellows, attending physicians, and other staff caring for patients.

Responsibilities include assessing patients before, during, and after anesthesia, keeping patients safe, and delivering anesthesia using accepted techniques. The role also requires documenting procedures and incidents, serving as a link between surgeons, anesthesiologists, colleagues, patients, and families, and adjusting communication to suit each patient group. The CRNA takes part in departmental quality assurance work and professional development activities, and handles other related duties as assigned.

Candidates need a master's degree from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, plus licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Certification through the AANA and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association are also required, and no prior work experience is needed.

The job calls for solid computer skills for entering and retrieving patient data, comfort with Windows-based programs, and clear verbal and written communication. Flexibility to work around-the-clock shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage is expected.

Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potentially hazardous medications or waste is possible in the patient care setting.

Ochsner Health, which opened in 1942, describes its mission as serving, healing, leading, educating, and innovating. Some roles at this employer may be remote; remote work is not available to residents of several listed states, including Colorado, California, New York, and Washington, among others. Ochsner is an equal opportunity employer.
