Full details
The MetroHealth System uses an Anesthesia Care Team model that pairs CRNAs with staff anesthesiologists, student registered nurse anesthetists, residents, certified anesthesiologist assistants and surgical assistants. CRNAs at the system are expected to excel in case management, education and clinical research, working alongside an anesthesiologist to deliver anesthesia across a broad range of surgical procedures. The organization describes its mission as advancing care quality through service, education, innovation and teamwork.
The role calls for strong technical, cognitive and interpersonal abilities. Duties include completing pre-anesthetic assessments, discussing the anesthetic plan, and giving anesthesia under the guidance of an appropriate staff anesthesiologist in line with professional standards and licensing law. The CRNA prepares and tests supplies, equipment and monitors before each case, manages induction, maintenance and emergence, and provides inhalation, intravenous, spinal, epidural and peripheral nerve block techniques. The position also involves recognizing changes in the patient's physiologic response, notifying the responsible physician, transferring patients to postoperative care, and taking part in quality improvement and research projects.
Scheduling is Monday through Friday on a biweekly basis, with shift variability available on request and a limited expectation of in-house weekend call.
Applicants need a BSN from an accredited school, a current Ohio RN license, a graduate degree from a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program, current NBCRNA certification, and current ACLS and BLS credentials. Candidates must also show ongoing competency in the listed clinical duties.
Physical demands include full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, extended periods of standing and walking, lifting and moving patients, corrected hearing and vision to normal range, some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids, and the ability to perform under extreme pressure.
