Full details
Working under the medical supervision of an anesthesiologist, the CRNA provides general and regional anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical and other procedures requiring anesthesia. Patients range from neonates and children through adolescents, adults and older adults, and care follows hospital and departmental standards.
Responsibilities include airway management, fluid and homeostasis maintenance, patient monitoring, emergency response including airway and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and care of patients on ventilators. Before surgery, the CRNA interviews and examines each patient, reviews the chart, and chooses an anesthetic with the anesthesiologist. The role also involves checking equipment daily and between cases, preparing medications, and evaluating patients after surgery, including within 24 hours postoperatively.
The CRNA works within delineated clinical privileges and must follow organizational rules, policies, and regulatory requirements such as TJC and Title 22. Additional duties include precepting student nurse anesthetists, keeping an accurate count of controlled substances, maintaining equipment and supplies, and performing other tasks within scope of licensure. The position is full time and based in San Diego.
