Full details

This per diem, rotating position at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, places a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the Anesthesia and Perioperative department at the University of Rochester. Hours are set as scheduled, and the posted compensation range runs from $110.50 to $165.75, with the final rate based on factors such as experience, education, and market data.

The CRNA delivers anesthesia care before, during, and after surgery. Pre-anesthetic duties include interviewing patients, reviewing their history, examinations, lab and imaging results, and prior anesthetic records, deciding on medications and fluid or blood support, and consulting physicians when needed. Intraoperative work covers preparing and checking equipment, positioning patients, placing monitoring devices, performing venipuncture, arterial puncture, laryngoscopy and intubation, inducing and maintaining anesthesia, and responding to adverse drug reactions. The nurse also escorts patients to recovery, hands off essential information, follows up after surgery, and provides emergency resuscitation anywhere in the hospital.

Documentation requires a complete, legible anesthesia record, and the CRNA inspects equipment for safety hazards, keeps supplies stocked, and monitors cleaning and sterilization practices. Ongoing education through society meetings, conferences, in-house seminars, and professional journals is expected.

Candidates must be graduates of an approved nursing program holding a current New York State nursing license, and must have graduated from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Active practicing membership in the AANA is also required, and holding CRNA certification confirms the national examination was passed and continuing education requirements are being met.
