Full details

The role at Uniontown Hospital, located at 500 W Berkeley Street in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, provides anesthetic care to patients of all types undergoing every kind of procedure. The CRNA works under the direction of the supervising or medically directing physician and follows hospital policies, administering anesthesia so that patients feel no pain during surgery or procedures. Continuous, attentive monitoring of how each patient responds to sedatives, analgesics, and anesthetic agents is central, and any adverse change that could threaten safety must be reported promptly to the surgeon or anesthesiologist.

Candidates need a current Registered Nurse license in West Virginia or in whichever state the services are performed, along with board certification or recertification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.

Core responsibilities include maintaining patient safety at all times, managing the airway with skill across the full range of airway adjuncts such as Bullard scopes, fiberoptic scopes, and ILMAs, and practicing within delineated clinical privileges. The CRNA takes part in pre-anesthetic evaluation and selection of agents and techniques, places intravenous and invasive monitoring catheters per protocol, intubates and extubates, performs arterial punctures for blood gas analysis, and manages induction, maintenance, and emergence for general, regional, and monitored anesthesia cases. The role also covers post-operative evaluation, IV fluid administration, blood product administration after appropriate testing and consultation, thorough anesthesia record documentation, and equipment safety checks.

Additional duties involve verifying informed consent and surgical site through briefings with the circulating and holding room nurses, joining the surgical pause, communicating with the full peri-operative team, and providing anesthesia during life-threatening emergencies when no anesthesiologist is present. The CRNA helps teach and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, student registered nurse anesthetists, and graduate registered nurse anesthetists in the clinical area, and is accountable for controlled substances under hospital, state, and federal rules.

The position calls for the ability to see fine details up close, to stay calm and effective under high stress, and to be reliable and dependable. Work may involve exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous compounds, and anesthetic agents, requiring strict adherence to safety guidelines, and some lifting or moving of patients. The job is scheduled for 40 hours per week and may require on-call duty, nights, weekends, or holidays.
