Full details
This as-needed (PRN) CRNA position in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, provides anesthesia care for patients across all types of procedures. The nurse anesthetist works alongside the supervising or medically directing physician and follows hospital policies, administering anesthesia so that patients feel no pain during surgery or other procedures while watching closely for adverse reactions to sedatives, analgesics, and anesthetic agents.
Eligibility requires a current registered nursing license in West Virginia or in whichever state the services will be delivered, along with credentialing from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
Core responsibilities include keeping patients safe at all times, managing airway care with a range of adjuncts such as the Bullard scope, fiberoptic scope, and ILMA, and working strictly within approved clinical privileges. The role also involves joining pre-anesthetic assessments, choosing agents and techniques, placing IV and invasive monitoring lines, performing intubation and extubation, drawing arterial blood for gas analysis, and managing induction, maintenance, and emergence for general, regional, and monitored cases.
The nurse anesthetist monitors each patient's response, alerts the surgeon or anesthesiologist to any dangerous change, handles emergencies and post-operative evaluation, manages IV fluids and blood products, documents thoroughly, checks equipment before care begins, and confirms consent and the correct surgical site with the care team. Additional duties include teaching and evaluating newly hired CRNAs, student nurse anesthetists, and graduate nurse anesthetists, and being accountable for controlled substances under hospital, state, and federal rules.
Physical demands include close visual detail work, calm composure under high pressure, and adaptability in a varied setting. The environment may expose the nurse anesthetist to infectious patients and hazardous substances, requires strict infection-control practices, carries a risk of back strain when moving patients, and may involve on-call duty, nights, weekends, or holidays.
The position is based at 500 W Berkeley Street in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, within the SMG System Medical Group anesthesiology department, and is part of West Virginia University Health System, which is an equal opportunity employer.
