Full details
UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time, non-exempt hourly Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist to join the Anesthesiology Department, which is run by the University of Pittsburgh Physicians. The team includes board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists who emphasize patient quality and service, are willing to teach, and take part in research, and who work well alongside student registered nurse anesthetists.
Shifts run 10 to 12 hours. On-call duty is required after orientation. Cases are varied and include ENT procedures, off-site MRI, interventional radiology and cath lab work, transplants, all types of trauma, and high-acuity procedures.
The hospital is nationally ranked and holds Magnet designation as a pediatric center. The posting cites more than 4,000 advanced practice professionals and over 616 CRNAs, along with flexible scheduling and a career ladder that the employer says has helped 87% of its CRNAs advance. Participants may choose their areas of interest and earn financial rewards tied to their career path.
Compensation highlights include a competitive salary with recently increased ranges, substantial sign-on bonuses, generous relocation assistance, a tier program that accelerates salary growth at credentialed sites with performance-based annual raises, and site movement incentives. Benefits include generous paid time off and paid parental leave.
Day-to-day duties cover the full anesthetic course, from pre-anesthetic preparation through induction, maintenance, emergence, and post-anesthesia care, plus peri-anesthesia support. The CRNA works under the supervising physician, monitors patient responses to sedatives and anesthetic agents, reports adverse conditions that threaten safety, and is accountable for controlled substances under department, hospital, state, and federal rules. The role also includes verifying informed consent, confirming the surgical site with staff and the surgeon, teaching and evaluating newly hired CRNAs, graduate nurse anesthetists, and student nurse anesthetists, and contributing to quality improvement through documentation, incident reporting, and education.
Pittsburgh offers a mix of urban amenities, cultural and outdoor activities, and suburban living, along with a range of schools and universities.
