Full details
The role at West Penn Hospital provides anesthetic care to patients in the surgical setting. The CRNA evaluates each patient presenting for anesthesia, then designs and carries out the anesthetic plan, along with keeping accurate medical record documentation. A large share of the work involves continuous monitoring of patients under anesthesia and prompt correction of any abnormal responses. The CRNA keeps the attending physician informed about the plan of care and brings the physician into clinical decisions that fall beyond the CRNA's own knowledge or scope of practice.
Additional responsibilities include helping to develop and put into practice performance and quality improvement efforts, and following recognized safety standards while meeting regulatory requirements. The CRNA serves as a clinical resource for the wider healthcare team and may mentor new staff or students. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Candidates need a current Pennsylvania RN license or a current multistate license under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. National certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist is required, and prior CRNA experience is preferred. Hiring also requires CPR certification from the American Heart Association, PALS and ACLS certifications, and several clearances, including state criminal background and child abuse certificates, and FBI fingerprinting.
