Full details

This part-time role at West Penn Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network, provides anesthetic care to patients in the surgical setting. The CRNA assesses, plans, evaluates, and carries out anesthetic management for every patient receiving anesthesia care, and keeps accurate medical records; this is the largest share of the work. Continuous monitoring of anesthetized patients and prompt correction of abnormal responses make up a major portion of the duties, with the attending physician consulted on the plan of care and on any issue beyond the CRNA's knowledge or scope of practice.

The position also involves helping to create and carry out performance and quality improvement efforts, and following the legal and ethical standards of nursing and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, along with safety rules and regulatory requirements. The CRNA serves as a clinical resource for the interdisciplinary team and may mentor new staff or students. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Required qualifications include a current Pennsylvania RN license or a current multistate license under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. Certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists is required, and prior CRNA experience is preferred. Candidates must also hold current CPR, PALS, and ACLS credentials from the American Heart Association and complete several clearances, including state criminal background and child abuse checks and FBI fingerprinting.
