Full details
The University of Pittsburgh Physicians Anesthesiology Department is hiring a full-time, non-exempt, hourly Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at UPMC East. The site is described as the newest hospital in its region, with a modern operating suite equipped with current surgical technology, strong infection prevention practices, and an emphasis on patient comfort and safety. Many operations there are performed through minimally invasive approaches, which the posting says supports quicker healing and smaller scars.
The hospital handles a broad range of routine and complicated operations across close to a dozen surgical fields, among them endocrine, ENT, general, orthopedic, plastic, podiatric, spine, thoracic, urologic, and vascular procedures. The posting presents this variety as a way for CRNAs to build varied clinical experience in a well-equipped environment.
Advancement is central to the offer. A career ladder lets clinicians choose their focus areas and earn financial rewards tied to their chosen path, and the posting notes that most CRNAs there have moved up it. Other listed incentives include a raised pay range, substantial sign-on payments, relocation support, flexible shift options, PTO that grows with tenure, a tier program that raises pay at credentialed sites, annual performance-based raises, and recognition for moving between sites.
Benefits are described as broad and aimed at personal and professional wellbeing, with generous paid time off and paid parental leave. Continuing education resources are also available to help CRNAs stay current in anesthesia practice.
Day to day, the CRNA gives anesthesia care to every patient alongside a supervising physician, in line with department standards and hospital rules. Duties include preparing patients before anesthesia, inducing, maintaining, and bringing patients out of anesthesia, providing post-anesthesia and peri-anesthesia support, watching for reactions to sedatives and anesthetic agents, and alerting the anesthesiologist to conditions that could endanger a patient. The role carries accountability for controlled substances under department, hospital, state, and federal rules.
Additional responsibilities include reviewing consent documentation, confirming the correct surgical site with the operating team and surgeon, teaching and evaluating newly hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and SRNAs, and taking part in quality improvement work through documentation, incident reporting, evaluation, and education.
