This casual position at Forbes Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network, centers on providing anesthetic care to patients in the surgical setting. The CRNA assesses each patient, plans and carries out the anesthetic management, and keeps accurate medical record documentation, which accounts for about half of the role. Continuous monitoring of anesthetized patients and prompt correction of abnormal responses make up roughly another third, with the CRNA keeping the attending physician involved in the plan of care and in decisions that fall outside the CRNA's knowledge base or scope of practice.

Additional responsibilities include taking part in performance and quality improvement initiatives, following legal, ethical, and AANA standards along with safety rules and regulatory requirements, and serving as a clinical resource to the interdisciplinary team. The CRNA may mentor new staff or students, and other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications include a current Pennsylvania RN license or a current multi-state license under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, plus certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. Previous CRNA experience is preferred. Candidates must also hold current American Heart Association CPR, PALS, and ACLS credentials and complete several clearances, including a criminal background certificate, a child abuse clearance certificate, and FBI fingerprinting.
