Full details
UPMC St. Margaret is seeking a full-time, non-exempt, hourly Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist to join its anesthesiology team within the University of Pittsburgh Physicians Anesthesiology Department. The hospital is a 250-bed Magnet-designated facility that also hosts a UPMC Certified Stroke Institute. The schedule can be built from 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts, and an on-call team is in place.
The main campus has 13 operating rooms and 3 GI procedure rooms, where CRNAs handle General, Orthopedics, Urology, Vascular, GYN, and ENT cases. CRNAs also rotate to UPMC Harmar Outpatient Center, which has 5 ORs, gaining exposure to Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Plastics procedures.
A newer 24-hour call option lets providers work condensed schedules that create more time off, which UPMC presents as a way to support work-life integration. The organization reports more than 4,000 APP professionals and over 616 CRNAs, and describes a career ladder through which 87% of its CRNAs have advanced while choosing their own areas of interest.
Compensation highlights in the posting include a salary with recently increased ranges, substantial sign-on bonuses, relocation assistance, a tiered program that speeds salary growth at credentialed sites, annual performance-based raises, and incentives for moving between sites. Benefits include generous paid time off and paid parental leave.
Day-to-day, the CRNA gives anesthetic care to all patients under the supervising physician, following department standards and hospital policy. Duties include delivering anesthesia and related care across every phase from preparation through post-anesthesia and peri-anesthesia support, monitoring patients' reactions to sedatives and anesthetic agents, and alerting the anesthesiologist to conditions that threaten safety.
The role also carries accountability for controlled substances under departmental, hospital, state, and federal rules, and includes helping teach and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and SRNAs. The CRNA reviews informed consent documentation, confirms the surgical site with OR staff and the surgeon, and takes part in quality improvement through documentation, incident reporting, evaluation, and education.
