UPMC Washington Hospital, located at 155 Wilson Avenue in Washington, Pennsylvania, is looking for a casual CRNA who is flexible, dependable, and comfortable in a fast-paced community hospital. The position is paid at competitive hourly rates and includes free parking.
Scheduled shifts run from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., or from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., depending on staffing needs. The role carries no night, weekend, or holiday work and no beeper call. Anesthesia is provided under an MD supervision model.
Case types span women's health and obstetrics, robotic and general surgery, urology, gastroenterology, ENT, neuro-spine, orthopedics, and cardiology, the latter including cath lab and diagnostic procedures.
The CRNA works as part of a multidisciplinary group alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other clinicians, with an emphasis on teamwork, mutual respect, and shared commitment to high standards of patient care. The practice values each CRNA's expertise in every procedure.
The CRNA delivers anesthesia care to all patients, working with the supervising physician and adhering to the Department of Anesthesiology's guidelines and hospital rules. Duties include administering anesthesia from pre-anesthetic preparation through induction, maintenance, emergence, and post-anesthesia recovery, along with peri-anesthesia support. The CRNA monitors how patients respond to sedatives and anesthetic agents and alerts the anesthesiologist to any adverse condition that could endanger safety.
The position holds responsibility for controlled substances under departmental, hospital, state, and federal rules. The CRNA also helps teach and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, graduate registered nurse anesthetists, and student registered nurse anesthetists. Pre-procedure work includes reviewing informed consent documentation and confirming the correct surgical site with operating room staff and the surgeon.
The CRNA takes part in quality improvement through documentation, incident reporting, evaluation, education, and putting improvements into practice.
