Full details

UPMC is recruiting a full-time, non-exempt hourly Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for its outpatient surgery center in West Mifflin, a newly built facility within the University of Pittsburgh Physicians Anesthesiology Department. The center's high-tech suite includes four ORs and recovery space for 18 patients before and after surgery, and the CRNA works alongside board-certified surgeons, anesthesiologists, fellow CRNAs, registered nurses and technicians.

Case variety is broad and covers general surgery, ENT, urology, plastics, gynecology, orthopedics, eye, podiatry and GI procedures, with pediatric patients included when they are over 13 years old. The culture is described as team-oriented and gives weight to autonomy and flexibility.

Pay and incentives mentioned include a competitive salary with recently raised ranges, sizable sign-on bonuses, relocation assistance, a career ladder that offers financial rewards for chosen areas of interest, a tier program that raises pay at credentialed sites, performance-based annual increases, and recognition for willingness to move between sites. Scheduling options include flexible shifts and advancement in paid time off.

Benefits described include generous paid time off and paid parental leave, along with access to continuing education resources. The posting notes that more than 4,000 advanced practice providers and over 616 CRNAs work across the system, which the employer presents as a source of advancement opportunities.

Core duties include delivering anesthesia care from pre-anesthetic preparation through induction, maintenance, emergence and post-anesthesia recovery, plus peri-anesthesia support. The CRNA works under the supervising physician according to department standards and hospital policy, monitors how patients respond to sedatives and anesthetic agents, and reports any adverse conditions to the anesthesiologist.

The role also carries accountability for controlled substances under department, hospital, state and federal rules, reviews informed consent documents, and confirms the correct surgical site with the surgeon and operating room staff. Additional responsibilities include helping teach and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, student registered nurse anesthetists and graduate registered nurse anesthetists, and taking part in quality improvement through documentation, incident reporting and education.
