Full details

This part-time role at Jefferson Hospital, within Allegheny Health Network, provides anesthetic care to patients in the surgical setting. The CRNA assesses, plans, evaluates, and carries out anesthetic management for every patient receiving anesthesia care, with documentation in the medical record making up a large share of the work (45%). Continuous observation of anesthetized patients and prompt correction of abnormal responses account for about 35% of the role, and the CRNA keeps the attending physician informed of the plan of care and brings the physician into decisions that fall outside the nurse anesthetist's knowledge or scope of practice.

Other responsibilities include helping develop and carry out performance or quality improvement initiatives (10%), following the legal and ethical standards of nursing and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and maintaining safety standards and regulatory compliance (5%). The CRNA also acts as a clinical resource for the wider healthcare team, may mentor new staff or students (5%), and takes on other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a current Pennsylvania RN license or current multistate licensure under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, plus certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. Previous CRNA experience is preferred. Additional requirements include CPR certification through the American Heart Association, PALS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association, several state clearance certificates (Act 34 criminal background, Act 33 child abuse, and Act 73 FBI fingerprinting background).
