Full details

UPMC is recruiting a part-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, a non-exempt hourly position, at its outpatient surgery center in West Mifflin, which is part of the University of Pittsburgh Physicians anesthesiology department. The newly built center is a fast-moving ambulatory facility with a modern suite of surgical rooms along with a large number of bays for patients before and after their procedures. Staff include board-certified surgeons and anesthesiologists alongside other nurse anesthetists, registered nurses and technicians.

Cases span general surgery, ENT, urology, plastics, gynecology, orthopedics, eye, podiatry and gastroenterology, and the center accepts pediatric patients older than 13. The culture is collaborative and gives providers a good deal of independence and scheduling flexibility. Employer-described advancement tools include a career ladder, a tiered pay program tied to credentialed sites, performance-based annual raises, and recognition for willingness to work across sites.

Compensation and incentives mentioned in the listing include a competitive salary with recently raised ranges, sizeable sign-on bonuses and relocation help. Benefits include generous paid time off and paid parental leave. The employer also highlights continuing education resources to keep clinicians current.

The CRNA gives anesthesia care to every patient in partnership with the supervising physician, following department standards and hospital policy. Duties cover pre-anesthetic preparation, induction, maintenance, emergence, post-anesthesia recovery and peri-anesthesia support, along with watching patients' responses to sedatives and anesthetic agents and alerting the anesthesiologist to any risk to safety. The role carries accountability for controlled substances under departmental, hospital, state and federal rules. It also involves helping train and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, residents and student registered nurse anesthetists, confirming consent paperwork and the surgical site with the surgical team, and contributing to quality improvement through documentation, incident reporting and education.
