Full details
UM Rehab & Ortho Institute, a 141-bed hospital in Maryland with roots dating to 1895, is the state's largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services and is known for orthopedics and neurological care, including joint replacement, spinal cord injury, and stroke therapy. The facility treats more than 3,000 patients each year.
This PRN position is for a master's-prepared advanced practice nurse who delivers anesthesia care alongside anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and other medical staff across every practice area of the institution. The work follows the scope and practice parameters set by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and spans pre-anesthetic evaluation, induction, maintenance and emergence, post-anesthesia care, and peri-anesthetic support.
Duties include evaluating patients before surgery, ordering tests and pre-procedure medications, and securing informed consent. The CRNA builds age-appropriate, culturally sensitive anesthetic plans, selects and starts techniques such as general, regional, local, or IV sedation, and places monitoring devices. Ongoing tasks include reading hemodynamic and lab data, managing the airway, guiding recovery, discharging patients from the recovery area with follow-up, and managing pain, including labor epidurals. The role also covers emergency airway management and cardiac life support, transport of critically ill patients, and teaching trainees from several disciplines.
Candidates need graduation from an accredited nursing program and a master's degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia program, plus a Maryland State Board of Nurse Examiners license for nursing and nurse anesthesia. Current NBCRNA certification or recertification is required, along with current BLS, ACLS, and PALS. The position calls for working reliably in trauma and crisis settings, operating a wide range of equipment, strong written and verbal communication, and a grounding in patient safety practices such as reporting adverse events and near misses.
The posted schedule excludes nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty. The listed pay range is $200.00 to $225.00.
