Full details

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists for its Anesthesia team at Ashley River Tower in Charleston. It is the only heart and lung transplant program in South Carolina and also performs open-heart surgery, ventricular assist device placement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

Scheduling is flexible and self-directed, most CRNAs work a set number of long shifts each week, and the role carries no call duties, though some weekend and holiday coverage is expected. An additional stipend applies to the Ashley River Tower location, and pay can rise through annual performance reviews.

Compensation and benefits include state retirement options, comprehensive health coverage, paid parental leave, continuing education time with financial support, and potential eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Duties center on safe, evidence-based anesthesia care: pre-operative assessment, administering and monitoring anesthesia, post-operative evaluation and coordination with the surgical team. CRNAs work under the clinical oversight of an anesthesiologist and the administrative direction of CRNA leadership, in line with state law and MUSC policy.

Candidates need a degree from a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program, with a master's or higher in nurse anesthesia required for anyone hired after March 1, 2019. They must hold NBCRNA certification or recertification, or the eligibility applicable to new graduates, along with South Carolina APRN authorization or eligibility to obtain it. A current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card, demonstrated clinical competency, equipment proficiency and eligibility for professional malpractice coverage are also required.

Rotating shifts and overtime may be needed. Experienced CRNAs and new graduates are both encouraged to apply. MUSC is an equal opportunity employer and participates in E-Verify.
