Full details

MUSC University Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, invites experienced CRNAs and new graduates to join its anesthesia group at a Level I trauma center paired with a broad academic medical environment. The team is established, and the role comes with support for building a long-term career.

The position covers a wide mix of surgical services, including trauma, transplant, orthopedic, neurosurgical, ENT, urologic, gynecologic, robotic, and burn procedures. Additional work may come from CT, MRI, bronchoscopy, neuroangiography, and interventional radiology. The hospital runs 21 operating rooms and 10 non-operating room anesthesia sites.

Duties include preoperative evaluation, giving and monitoring anesthesia, postoperative assessment, and collaborating with the care team, all under the clinical oversight of an anesthesiologist and the administrative direction of CRNA leadership. Scheduling is self-directed, and most CRNAs take a compact weekly block of longer shifts, with weekend, holiday, and overnight coverage largely filled by volunteers and supported by dedicated night staff.

Compensation includes a $50,000 sign-on bonus for eligible external candidates who commit to three years, plus a location stipend for University Hospital. Pay may rise each year based on performance, and the benefits package includes state retirement options, paid parental leave, continuing education time and funding, and possible eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Candidates need to be graduates of a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program, with a master's degree or higher required for anyone hired after March 1, 2019. They must hold or be eligible for NBCRNA certification, be eligible for South Carolina APRN authorization or the licensure needed to obtain it, and maintain current American Heart Association BLS certification. Demonstrated clinical competence, skill with anesthesia equipment, and eligibility for malpractice coverage are also expected.

The job involves prolonged standing, walking, and sitting, frequent bending, reaching, and fine hand movements, and lifting or moving patients and equipment, with some tasks requiring up to 50 pounds of force. Vision and hearing standards apply, and the role may require working rotating shifts and overtime when needed.
