Full details
This casual CRNA position at Allegheny Health Network provides anesthetic care to patients in the surgical setting. The anesthetist assesses, plans, evaluates and carries out anesthetic management for every patient needing anesthesia, and keeps accurate medical records; this is the largest share of the role. Continuous monitoring of anesthetized patients and prompt correction of abnormal responses also form a major part of the work.
The CRNA consults the attending physician on the plan of care and brings physicians into clinical decisions that go beyond the nurse anesthetist's knowledge or scope of practice. Other responsibilities include helping to design and carry out performance or quality improvement efforts, following legal, ethical and safety standards set by nursing and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and serving as a clinical resource to the wider care team. Mentoring new staff or students may be part of the role, and other duties may be assigned.
Candidates need a current Pennsylvania RN license or a current multistate license under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. Certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists is required, and prior CRNA experience is preferred. Additional requirements include current American Heart Association CPR, PALS and ACLS credentials, plus Act 34 and Act 33 clearances, an Act 73 FBI fingerprint background clearance.
